Lean Hogs Gaining on Thursday

Thursday trading in the lean hog futures market has prices 27 to 92 cents in the black. The CME Lean Hog Index was $72.05 on 11/03, down by another 83 cents. USDA’s National Average Morning Base Hog price was withheld for confidentiality; yesterday’s PM price was $61.28. The National Pork Carcass Cutout value shot up $8.59 in the AM report to $91 flat. Bellies and Hams were up $23.13 and $12.76 respectively. USDA’s weekly Export Sales report showed 42,194 MT of pork booked on the week ending 10/29. That was a 4 week high, but still down 4% yr/yr. Mexico was the top purchaser, with China number 2. China and Mexico were the top two destinations for the 37,700 MT of the week’s shipments, with 39% and 27% respectively. Accumulated 2020 pork exports to China account for 37.4% of the record 1.596 MMT total. USDA estimated federally inspected Hog slaughter at 1.475 million head for the week through Wednesday. That was even with last year’s pace, but up 11k from last week.

Dec 20 Hogs are at $67.025, up $0.675,

Feb 21 Hogs are at $67.925, up $0.925

Apr 21 Hogs are at $70.125, up $0.725
